Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

Hi Trax, Just wanted to say thanks for the reply. As you can guess I have been on work projects for the last month, and may be I see a fr*e day sometime next month to sit down again and do some more nixie building. I'll keep you posted.

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

Mixed day, got the 3 Atmega ic's loaded with the wt2.hex file with relative ease. I used the USBasp and burn o mat, which if I understand correctly runs on avrdude. After a bit of messing around, changing the driver, and the usb port I got it successfully loaded. Then I did the high voltage tests an...

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

Hello Trax, Sorry for not replying earlier, my work is project based and sometime I am away from home for weeks at a time. Good news is that I have a fr*e day tomorrow, and everything arrived from china while I was away so I will have a go at putting the hex file on the Atmel, soldering in the peizo...

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

My new multimeter arrived today :) . And so I re ran the tests that are in the final pages of the mainboard assembly on all 3 of my mainboards. Test 1. With only the 3v battery check across point 7 and 22 of the Atmega ic socket. It should read 3v but it reads nothing for any of them. Test 2 With th...

So I bought it, now 30 day wait til it comes form China and I familiarize myself with how to program the AVR.

I was looking at those, compatible with atmega 328, for that price its worth a try.

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

Thanks Trax, I understand the basic concept of what is needed. I just have to read more and get familiar with exactaly whats going on. Quite a few tutorials about using an arduino and bread bord as an ISP, but I even found this one for putting hex code on Atmega chips which skips the arduino altoget...

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

Wow, a whole new world of stuff to learn.  Quick question to narrow my research field... You said in an earlier post you are using a AVR programmer from mikroelectronika and I see other AVR programmers like the AVR dragon. For me, as this will be the only time I program an AVR, it wou...

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

Do I have to programe the Atmega ic with the firmware? YES! And also with CLKOUT fuse enabled! This provides the required clock for the LED driver IC. Please find the fuses-image-screenshot in this topic, somewhere :) If you fail, let me know and I will look it up. Cool, another new process to lear...

Nice work!

Just make sure you don't have short-circuited pins in DS3231 RTC clock IC.
It is some sloppy soldering but I checked to make sure there were no short circuits.

Do I have to programe the Atmega ic with the firmware?

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

Hi Trax, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me get this finished. The 3v I was searching for is from test 1 after completing the mainboard. It said before attaching the power supply, put in the battery and test across the GND and the VCC and see if it reads 3v. Which it didn't, so I dec...

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

Hello, I'm back, with more annoying questions to try and finish my 3 clocks. :P I got all my soldering finished just before new year, did test 1 and could not get a reading. :-(. I decide to see if I could figure out the problem my self and spent some time going over the schematics, checking the sol...

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

Thats super Trax, and now I am back on track.

Thanks for the heads up with which side to solder the nixies, I am pretty sure I would have gone for the option of putting the TLC59401 on the bottom side, but sometimes I am capable of making those sort of mistakes.

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

I am slowly moving along, actually I am making 3 clocks at the same time, (2 wedding presents and one for my self) 2 of them are IN16 and one is IN14 and I have a question about the IN14. The assembly instructions are for the IN16 nixies but on the IN14, for the R3, R4 and C3 there are 3 smd pads un...

Trax, thanks for this, it is very helpful. My project keeps getting side tracked due to work, slowly but surely it will get done.

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

Ok, I have been looking at the schematics and I see the two NPN KSP42 transistors, but I cannot figure out where the second one goes on the V2 board. ON the V1 board I can see the two of them... https://s21.postimg.cc/gmq3jhc3r/mainboard_V1.jpg but int V2 I can only see one. https://s22.postimg.cc/w...

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

For the shield assembly I will follow the instructions and use the iron and solder paste, I was referring to the RTC IC when I said I soldered it manually, as far as I could tell there there wasn't a ground pad underneath the RTC IC. Like I said in the beginning, I have very little experience in ele...

Re: Warm Tube Clock sat v2

I guess for the experienced, none of this is a problem 8) . I saw in the shield assembly that solder paste is used and melted with an iron, having many of the components already in place it was not possible to get the iron under the board so I wen ahead and soldered it manually. I really don't know ...
